Urban Design Studio

The Urban Design Studio (UDS) aims to integrate theory with design studio in order to expose the students to the discourse on urban issues and to inform design. The Module Learning Outcomes (MLO) of the theory component of the UDS are reinforced by theoretical ideas underpinning design. Initially the students are required to theorise prevailing behavioral settings that are appropriate in the tropical Asian context. Subsequently the students are required to write a critical reflection (2000 words) on their theoretical position.

Project 1a - Finding Opportunities (Site Analysis)

Our site given was at Klang, right next to Klang river. A series of site analysis are conducted to study the current situation of the site, hence gain information and better understanding for use to further develop our master urban planing and building design.

Project 1b - Promoting the Opportunities (Urban Master Plan)

The entire mater urban planning is toward sport and recreation district. The plan of this urban city achieves the goal of restoring the notable association between city and the Klang River by restoring the current river framework towards the city and encouraging users to be by the water and use it. The region is surrounded by lushes of greens and green pocket made to enhance the site. The facilities in this city offers a different blend of urban sub-spaces permitting different to engage in the thing they have in common, in an assortment of activities including dining, recreation, entertainment and relaxation.

Project 1c - Sustaining the Opportunities

Proposed Aqua Centre -

As mentioned previously, Klang used to be the royal town and has one of the most important ports of the state, while the port still functioning and as important as it used to be, but the livability of town itself has declined. To revitalize Klang, a proposal of “The Bowl”, meaning aquatic centre are proposed. The intention of the proposal is through an activity which nearby communities are familiar with, to draw in attraction while allow the adaptation to new space, which can be explain as people make places, more than place make people.
