Brief Introduction
Culture and History 1 is a chronological survey of the developments of Western architecture from the beginning of time to the period of Enlightenment, with consideration of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors which have influenced the design of the buildings. These issues are explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and phiosophy of significant exponents.

Project: Precedent Study and Analysis
This project focus on investigating historical works to enrich architectural design and idea. Through the study of existing buildings, we are able to communicate and expand our own architectural vocabulary and develop design concepts.

This project consist of 3 part.

Part 1
Part 1 is a on-line group forum. In a group of 5, we are to study analysis of the given historical building, make an online forum discussion with analysis drawings. The building given to my group is San Vitale, Ravenna, Italy. We are to answer 1 question out of 5 individually and make a forum about the question. The question I answer was question 1.

i. Who was the architect or founder of the building?
ii. What was the concept or philosophy of the architect or founder that makes the building historically significant / meaningful?

Part 2
Part 2 is individual work, with the previous forum we have done, we are given whole new bunch of questions. Our task in this part is to create a sketch book and answer the question we choosen on it with mor ein-depth analysis information, drawing or sketches. Question 1 to 3 is compulsory for all student to answer as well as B-6, then again we choose 1 our of 5 question to answer.

1. How does the building reflect the spirit of the time and place for which it was built?
2. What are the initial ideas and the design concept?
3. How the initial ideas and the design concept affecting the architecture?
4. Spatial Organization analysis (i. Spatial planning & Landscape/Site Siting, ii. Building sequence and process, iii. Public vs. private, iv. Axis, v. Symmetry/Asymmetry & balance, vii. Repetitive to unique, viii. Additive and subtractive, ix. Hierarchy)

Part 3
Finaly part of this project is we are to creatively create a A2 presentation board base on PART 2's questions. The presentation board is strictly hand-draw and hand-written only.

My reflection toward this project or module is that I really learn lot of thing, especially different design style and idea in different period of time. With the help of te forum, we able to learn from each other or even share our knowledge or information with each other, thats a very new way of doing project for me, which makes things a lot easier and faster. Besides that, I'm able to enhance my architectural design and idea my implanting other design concept creatively into my deisng which help me out a lot in other subject like design studio.
